The Concordia women’s soccer team had a 3-0 shutout in the rain Saturday evening to defeat the College of Saint Mary Flames in the Great Plains Athletic Conference quarterfinals.
Concordia has broken the program winning streak record with its ninth straight win. The previous streak was set in 2016.
The first half was a tough defensive game for both teams. There was only one shot which came from the Flames’ Kylie Anderson which went high. The teams also matched each other in corner kicks with two apiece.
The Bulldogs came back with a bang in the second half with a shot from junior Savannah Andrews in the 58th minute and a goal from senior Mirarosa Gyllenswan in the 59th minute. Gyllenswan was assisted by junior forward Kierstynn Garner who booted a corner kick.
Andrews would hit the next goal in the 70th minute with another assist from Garner.
Garner kicked the final goal of the game in the 84th minute unassisted to seal the game for the Bulldogs and a ticket to the GPAC semifinals. This was Garner’s 20th goal of the season and her 47th career goal, tying for fourth place in the record book with Gentri Brown who played 2003-06.
College of Saint Mary outshot Concordia in the second half as well with eight compared to Concordia’s six. They had one more corner kick in the second half with two compared to Concordia’s one.
