The Concordia women’s soccer team shut out the Jamestown University Jimmies 1-0 Saturday evening up in Jamestown, North Dakota.
Their win finished off a weekend of intense competition with Jamestown with volleyball coming down to Seward for an intense face-off Friday evening and both soccer teams heading north. The game also put the women’s soccer team back in the win column after a tough 1-0 loss against Morningside University.
Sophomore Kierstynn Garner scored the lone goal of the game right off the bat in the eighth minute. She took a pass down the field with a Jamestown defender right by her side and shot the ball right past the opposing goalie’s head into the open goal.
The Bulldogs spent the rest of the game fending off the Jimmies’ attacks, as they were unable to create many opportunities for themselves. Jamestown took ten shots in the second half alone, giving senior goalie Bradi Ore a lot of work. Concordia, meanwhile, only made four shots in the half.
Jamestown outshot Concordia 14-8 for the night. Sophomore Niah Kirchner led the Bulldogs in shots with two. Concordia did beat Jamestown in corner kicks with three compared to the Jimmies’ measly one. Ore was the lone goalie for the night and recorded a whopping nine saves.
The women now have a 9-3-1 record overall and a 5-1-1 record in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The women come back for a Wednesday night game against College of Saint Mary on Oct. 11 with kickoff at 7 p.m.
