Women’s Basketball Wins First Game of the GPAC Tournament

Second-ranked Concordia women’s basketball began the GPAC tournament with a 88-69 win over Midland University inside Walz Arena on Wednesday night.
The tandem of freshman forward Philomena Lammers and junior guard Dani Andersen poured in 19 points each to spur the Bulldogs to the conference semifinals.
Sophomore forward Quinn Wragge added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs had the first seed in the tournament whereas Midland came in with the eighth seed.
Concordia forced just 19 turnovers in comparison to the team average of 26.6, but the Bulldogs kept their turnovers well below their average, with just 12 on the evening. The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Warriors 48-37
Midland Warriors guard Amanda Hansen challenged the Bulldogs with 26 points and eight rebounds, but it was not enough as the Warriors shot just 33 percent from the field and 27 percent from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs now shift their focus to the fifth-seeded Northwestern Red Raiders who finished with a record of 19-10 overall and 10-10 in GPAC play. The last time the Red Raiders played in Walz Arena during regular season, the Bulldogs won by 47 points. The semifinal game is set for Saturday, Feb. 25th at 3 p.m. in Walz Arena.
