The Concordia University Bulldogs women’s basketball team extended their win streak to five as they bested the Waldorf Warriors 90-50 on Feb. 1 in Seward.
A strong team performance and third-quarter push helped the Bulldogs achieve their 13th win of the season, eighth in win in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
The Bulldogs exploded right out of the gate, garnering a 14-point, 20-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Warriors were able to cut the deficit to seven two minutes before the halftime interval but weren’t able to overcome a monstrous third-quarter Bulldog performance.
The Bulldogs outscored Waldorf 35-17 in the third period which put the game well and truly to bed with 10 minutes still to play.
In what was a well-rounded team outing 14 out of the 15 Bulldogs who played got their name on the scoresheet. Senior Abby Krieser edged out her teammates in the scoring department with 13 shooting 6-9 from the field and 1-2 from behind the line. Sophomore Raelyn Kelty, senior Kendal Brigham and junior Kristin Vieselmeyer also hit double digit points with 12, 11 and 10 respectively.
Brigham dished out a team-high five assists as well and freshman Makynna Robbins bossed the paint with 10 total rebounds, six of those being offensive.
Team-wise the Bulldogs shot 44.9 percent on field goal attempts, 26.9 percent from three-point range, and 68.4 percent from free throws.
Concordia looks forward to a rematch with Northwestern College on Feb. 8. The Raiders got the better of the Bulldogs 74-73 earlier in the season despite a 27-point performance from Kristin Vieselmeyer. The game in Orange City, Iowa is set to tip off at 2 p.m.
