Women’s Basketball Bounced from National Tournament in Heartbreaker

The No. 16 Concordia women’s basketball team finished their season in the first round of the national tournament with a heartbreaking loss after a last second shot from No. 18 Goshen College (Indiana) .
The Bulldogs began the game trading buckets with Goshen. At the end of the first, Concordia had a 21-18 lead. The Bulldogs pieced together an offensive spurt to create a 35-28 lead in the second quarter. The momentum quickly slowed, and by the end of the first half, Concordia held onto a slight 40-39 lead.
The tight game continued in the third quarter with both teams scoring an even 25 points. Goshen took control of the lead as the minutes dwindled down in the third quarter. At the end of three, Concordia regained a 65-64 lead over Goshen.
The fourth quarter started out with Goshen going on a 7-0 run to make a 76-70 lead. The Bulldogs quickly responded with their own run to tie the game up at 78 apiece. With 24 seconds left in play, the Bulldogs led 82-80. Goshen tied the game before creating a turnover with 10 seconds on the clock. After a Goshen timeout, the Bulldogs’ defense could not stop a 3-pointer in the final seconds by the Goshen Maple Leafs.
Freshman Quinn Wragge led the team with a double-double consisting of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Becky Mueller was close behind with 23 points, and sophomore Sydney Feller added another 15 points. Juniors Erin Vieselmeyer and Shelby Quinn were the only other Bulldogs scoring with 13 and 7 points respectively.
The Bulldogs end the season with a 22-10 record and a 14-8 GPAC showing. The future looks bright for Concordia who was led in scoring, rebounding, steals and blocks by Wragge. Quinn led the team in assists.
