Concordia women’s basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA DII Women’s Basketball National Tournament after defeating the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves 75-56 on Friday.
Star freshman Philomena Lammers led the Bulldogs with 20 points and 14 rebounds to spur Concordia to a 19-point victory in the second round of the national tournament.
For the first time this season, junior starter Mary Janovich did not attempt a field goal or score any points in her 12 minutes of play, but Concordia’s bench stepped up and scored 47 out of 75 points, with all 10 reserves checking into the game.
Wolves forward Kelli Schrauth led the way for her team with 16 points and 12 boards, but it was not enough to stop the Bulldog defense as Concordia forced 26 turnovers from the Wolves in the contest.
The Bulldogs now advance to the quarterfinals for the eighth time in school history. They have a quick turnaround as they take on the University of Jamestown of North Dakota. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m Saturday, March 11 inside the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
