Home Sports Volleyball Twice Victorious on Senior Night

By Chris Johnstone

The Concordia volleyball team played two games at home on Saturday, Oct. 29 for Senior Day against Central Christian College of Kansas and GPAC member Dakota Wesleyan University. The Bulldogs came away with wins in both games, defeating Central Christian College in straight sets (25-14, 25-15, 25-15) and Dakota Wesleyan 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 31-33, 25-16, 16-14).

Coming into the weekend, the Bulldogs were 12-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

Senior right side Tiegen Skains led the way with 13 kills against Central Christian and a career-high 26 kills against Dakota Wesleyan.

“I think it just helped spark a fire in the Dakota Wesleyan game and some of (the) kills definitely changed the momentum of the game,” Skains said. “Paige Getz had an awesome game too, which made it a great way to celebrate senior year.”

Dakota Wesleyan outside hitter Lauren Tadlock drove the Tigers with 29 kills in the match, but it was not enough to overcome the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will be back at Walz Arena when they take on No. 2 Hastings College on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. The Hastings Broncos have a record of 22-1 overall and are 13-1 in the GPAC.

“Getting two wins definitely builds confidence,” Skains said. “To prepare for Hastings on Wednesday, I think we are not gonna think about it too much. We’re definitely looking forward to a fight!”
