The Student Senate said it will have a contested election for 2024-2025 Senate officers as two students compete for the position of president.
“We have five people running for office, which means we do have to have an election this year,” said Maddy Peters, chairperson of the Senate’s Election Committee.
The Senate’s one contested race is between Aarin Dean and Joshua Burmeister for the position of president. The other three officer candidates are running uncontested: Quinlan Hendrickson is running for vice president; Emma VanTol, the current Senate secretary, is running for treasurer; and Kayla Korb is running for secretary.
All undergraduate students can vote for Senate officers. Peters said the ballot will be sent out via email from Student Services on April 9, along with presidential campaign videos from Dean and Burmeister.
Votes will be collected online until April 15. The 2024-2025 officers will be announced at the Senate meeting on April 16, and officers will be sworn in at the last meeting on April 23.
