If you missed Concordia University Nebraska sports this week, here is what happened.
The Concordia shooting team competed at the Midland University Warrior Open from Sept. 21-22 with a team score of 1,354 targets landing them fourth place. Senior Darren Harris led the team with a score of 278 made up of a 90 in trap, 98 in skeet and 90 in sporting. Fellow senior Sam Blevins finished just behind him with 277. The team next competes at the Prairie Circuit Conference Championships from Sept. 27-29.
The Concordia tennis teams traveled to Salina, Kan. for the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Central-West ITA Regional on Sept. 20-22. Freshman Imane Derman won the gold in the Kansas Wesleyan singles draw with an 8-2 win over her opponent Alejandra Parra from Ottawa University. The teams look forward to the Great Plains Athletic Conference Fall Individual Tournament to cap off their fall season on Sept. 27-28.
The Concordia men’s golf team competed at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate from Sept. 23-24 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The team finished ninth with a total score of 323-312-311–946 (+82). The team was led by senior Justin Webert who tied for 16th and had a card of 77-75-73–225 over three rounds.
The Concordia women’s golf team, meanwhile, competed at the Siouxland Invite from Sept. 23-24 split between Sioux Center, Iowa and Orange City, Iowa. The team placed eighth with a total score of 350-349–699 (+127). Junior Emery Custer led the team placing ninth with a card of 80-80–160. The women will join the men at the Nebraska Intercollegiate in Hastings from Oct. 4-5.
The Concordia women’s soccer team had a 2-0 loss to the Hastings College Broncos on Sept. 25 in Seward. Hastings, who was just dropped from the national top 25, was going to be a challenge for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs were only able to get off three shots for the day. Senior Angela Banks was the goalie for the game with two saves and two goals allowed. The team is now 3-5-1 overall and 0-3 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
The Concordia men’s soccer team also faced Hastings on Sept. 25 and tied 1-1 with the in-state rival. Senior Martin Herrera made the goal for the Bulldogs off a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Herrera was a shot machine in the game recording five shots and two on goal. Junior Nolan Fuelberth was the goalie for the game with two saves and one goal allowed. The team is now 2-2-6 overall and 1-0-2 in the GPAC. Both soccer teams play Briar Cliff University in Seward as part of homecoming activities. The women play at 5:30 p.m. and the men play at 8 p.m.
