If you missed Concordia University Nebraska Sports this week, here is what happened.
The Concordia shooting team competed at the Simpson Invite from Sept. 14-15. The team finished fourth overall with a score of 1,577. Senior Sam Blevins was the top shooter for the team with a final score of 315 including a 96 in trap, 79 in sporting, 99 in skeet and a 41 in super. Fellow senior Brennan Stones finished just behind Blevins with a 314 total score. The team next competes at the Midland University Warrior Open on Sept. 21-22 in Lincoln.
The Concordia women’s soccer team went right back to business after a 2-1 win against York University with a 2-0 win against the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves on Sept. 16. Junior Kierstynn Garner scored the first goal for the Bulldogs in the 42nd minute with an assist from fellow junior Savannah Andrews. Senior Hannah Haas scored the second goal in the 65th minute with an assist from Garner. Senior Angela Banks was the goalie for the game and had two saves and zero goals allowed.
Garner’s goal was her 14th career game winning goal and allowed her to claim the school record in that category. The previous record was 13 goals and was held by Jessica Skerston, who played from 2014-2016.
The women began their conference season on Sept. 18 against the Northwestern College Red Raiders in Seward with a gritty 4-3 loss. Andrews scored the first goal for the Bulldogs in the 37th minute off an assist from sophomore Sadie Mares with Garner scoring the other two in the 55th and 66th minute. Garner’s goals were assisted by Mares and Andrews respectively. Garner now has eight goals for the season. Banks was the goalie for this game as well with two saves and four goals allowed. The team is now 3-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
The men also played the Red Raiders on Sept. 18 after the women and won 1-0. Senior Martin Herrera scored the game winning goal for the Bulldogs in the 68th minute with an assist from fellow senior Jarrod Henson. Junior Nolan Fuelberth was the goalie for the game with five saves and zero goals allowed. The men are now 2-2-4 and 1-0 in the GPAC. Both teams face Dordt University on Sept. 21 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
