Men’s Tennis
The men’s tennis team defeated the Mount Marty Lancers 4-3 in a comeback win in their first Great Plains Athletic Conference match of the season.
The Bulldogs won just one of the three doubles matchups. Juniors Hugo Fuentes and Nick Velders defeated their Lancer opponents, but that still gave Mount Marty the one-point advantage heading into singles.
Mount Marty won the first singles match, but the Bulldogs took four of the last five to win by a narrow 4-3 margin.
Velders, freshman Ben Chisholm, senior Grady Works and junior Santiago Abadia were the four Bulldog winners. Works won the deciding point for Concordia. He defeated Luis Lainer of Mount Marty in two sets, 6-3 and 6-2.
The 9-5 Bulldogs are back in action on March 27 at 1 p.m. as they face the defending GPAC champions Morningside at the Bulldog Tennis Courts.
Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis team extended its win streak to 10 as they swept the Mount Marty Lancers and the College of Saint Mary Flames 7-0.
In their match against Mount Marty on March 23, the Bulldogs lost just 12 points in 15 total sets throughout the singles and doubles matches.
Junior Mariana Molano and freshman Ishane Derman, sophomore Chakira Derman and junior Alana Lopez Pagan and senior Tessa Blough and sophomore Alexa Richert teamed up to win all three of the doubles matches.
Molano, Derman, Lopez Pagan, Richert, Derman and Nina Milic all came out on top in their singles matchups.
The story was very much the same against the Flames, the only difference in doubles was that Lopez Pagan teamed up with Milic for their win.
Molano, Derman, Derman, Lopez Pagan, Richert, and Milic all won their singles matches to complete the rout.
The Bulldogs are now 11-1 on the season and will play host to defending GPAC champions Morningside on March 27 at noon.
Softball
The softball team brought home a 1-1 record against Hastings after bouncing back with 11 runs after a shutout loss.
The games on March 26 started out quite poorly for Concordia. The Bulldogs dug themselves into a whole early on, giving up three runs in the first inning of the first game. They were then unable to score the rest of the game while conceding another run in the fourth to finish the game 4-0.
Despite the loss, pitcher Megan Eurich still had a decent day on the mound giving up four runs on eight hits and striking out six in six innings.
The Bulldogs came out swinging in the second game of the series to take a win away from their trip.
The Bulldogs got their first run of the series in the top of the first, then proceeded to score four in the fourth inning, five in the sixth, and a final one in the seventh.
Hastings outdid their first-game score by putting up five runs but were unable to get past the formidable 11 that the Bulldogs earned.
Top Bulldog performers were Aubrey Brunning who collected two RBIs and got a run, Kylie Shottenkirk had three runs and an RBI, and Hannah Bowers had two runs and an RBI.
Kaylei Denison pitched all seven innings for the Bulldogs and gave up five runs on 12 hits.
The series puts Concordia at 17-9 on the season (2-2 GPAC). The Bulldogs have their first home game of the season on March 28 as they host Briar Cliff at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
