If you missed Concordia University Nebraska athletics this weekend, here is what happened.

The Concordia softball team traveled to Shawnee, Kan. to play the MidAmerica Nazarene University Pioneers, the Peru State College Bobcats, the Benedictine College Ravens and the Baker University Wildcats from Feb. 28-March 1. The Bulldogs were able to pull out a 4-1 win against Peru, but lost 7-6 to MidAmerica, 9-0 to Benedictine and 3-0 to Baker. The team is now 6-6 overall and next plays Graceland University and Park University on March 2.

Concordia’s narrow loss to MidAmerica was decided late in the game. Concordia put up its points in the second and third innings and held the lead for most of the back half. The Bulldogs put in good hits including senior Jennifer Katz who hit a home run to net herself two RBIs. The Pioneers were still able to chip into the lead and take it in the bottom of the sixth without any response from the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Kaylei Denison was the starting pitcher for Concordia going 3.1 innings with seven hits for five runs and three strikeouts. Junior Taryn Ganstrom finished out the game and was credited with the loss going 2.2 innings with seven hits for two runs and no strikeouts.

Concordia and Peru were scoreless for most of their game. Katz was able to send in a runner off a single to the left to put the first points on the board. Sophomore Grace Maguire later sent in a home run in the fifth and a sacrifice groundout in the sixth for a game high two RBIs. Senior Hanna Bowers hit in the last runner of the game with a double to center.

Senior Megan Eurich was the only pitcher Concordia needed for the game going all seven innings with four hits for one run and nine strikeouts.

Concordia’s bout with Benedictine was finished in five innings after the Ravens put up all nine of their runs in the second inning. Eurich was the starting pitcher for Concordia and was credited with the loss going 1.2 innings with six hits for eight runs and three strikeouts. Ganstrom took over for the remaining 3.1 innings, going one hit for one run and two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs faced another shutout against Baker though it was low scoring. The Wildcats put up one run in the fourth and the other two in the sixth. Denison was the lone pitcher for the game with seven hits for three runs and three strikeouts.

The Concordia tennis teams played the Baker University Wildcats at home on March 1 with both teams accomplishing a 7-0 sweep. The women are now 4-1 overall and the men are 4-4. They next play Friends University on March 7 in Wichita, Kan.

It was a true sweep for both teams; the Bulldogs took a sweep of the doubles and singles matches. The most competitive matches in the day were the No. 1 women’s match between junior Mariana Molano and Wildcat Dayna Steadman who went 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. The No. 4 men’s match was the most competitive with freshman Ben Chisholm and Wildcat Immo Ferger going 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.
