By Kai Olbrich
If you missed Concordia Nebraska sports this week, here is what happened.
Women’s Golf
The women’s golf team placed ninth at the Concordia Bulldog Spring Invite and got an athlete in the top 20 individually.
The meet, hosted by Concordia on April 1-2 at the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska, featured 13 teams from in and around the GPAC.
Concordia had a team score of 698 with a first-round score of 352 and second-round score of 346.
Junior Emery Custer was the top Bulldog competitor in 18th place with a score of 166. She had 83 strokes in both rounds.
Junior Maddie Lewis was the second-best Bulldog. Her score of 170, 86 in the first round and 84 in the second was enough to earn her 26th.
The golfers are back in action on April 14 as they compete in Doane University’s Kaitlyn Erickson Invite.
Softball
The softball team went 1-1 in a low-scoring series against Midland on April 2.
The first game was a 2-0 win for the Bulldogs and featured exceptional pitching and fielding from the Bulldogs.
Senior Megan Eurich was on the mound for all seven innings. She gave up eight hits, struck out four batters, and allowed no runs throughout the game. The Bulldog defense had no errors in that span as well.
The Bulldog runs came in the second and third innings, with one being scored in each.
Junior Taryn Ganstrom batted in senior Delanie Voshell in the second, and senior Jennifer Katz stole home in the third for the final run of the game.
The second game was an even closer affair, with Midland getting the edge 1-0.
The Bulldogs didn’t get a hit through all seven innings and only made it to first base twice due to walks.
Sophomore Kaylei Denison kept the Midland batters at bay for much of the game, but a lone run in the fourth inning was enough to give the edge over the Bulldogs.
Denison allowed five hits and one run through seven innings.
The softball team is on the road in Orange City, Iowa, for their next matchup, Northwestern, in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. on April 5.
