by Taylor Roby
The Bulldogs made their home debut on Friday against Northwest Kansas Technical College, when fans in Walz Arena witnessed the team dominating the Mavericks in a 38-8 victory.
Three of the wrestlers scored pins on their opponents: 174-pound sophomore Walker Fisher, 197-pound senior Ken Burkhardt Jr. and heavyweight senior DJ McIntyre. One hundred twenty-five pound senior Dmitri Smith and 165-pound junior Kirk Kaliszewski won through technical falls.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs traveled to Crete to wrestle at the Doane University Open. Twenty-one of the Concordia wrestlers achieved a total of 39 wins. Fisher and Mclntyre both claimed second place finishes in their weight brackets.
Burkhardt Jr. went 4-0, pinning all four of his opponents and claiming the tournament championship. Burkhardt Jr. also reached 100 wins for the first time in the Concordia program’s history.
The wrestling team will have a short break during the week of final exams, but will be back on the mat before Christmas on Dec. 19 in Oklahoma for the Oklahoma City Duals.
