Home News Socktober Clothing Drive Serves Seward Community

by Autumn Johnson

The Community Service Committee is hosting a donation drive in Janzow top through the end of October. This drive, dubbed “Socktober,” will donate cold-weather items to the Blue Valley Community Action organization.

Committee members hope to involve Concordia students in serving the Seward community. Socktober is the first of many potential service projects this school year. Students and faculty are asked to donate any of the following new or gently-used items: socks, gloves, hats and scarves. Donations can be placed in the box next to the ATM in Janzow.

“We’re very excited about Socktober (and) getting our first project off the ground. Hopefully we’re very successful with it and moving forward I think the community is going to be very excited about the other projects we have in the works,” senior Peter Jensen said.

The Community Service Committee will be accepting donations until Wednesday, Oct. 31. The drive is not only collecting donations, but also raising awareness of those in need.

“Socktober is important because it gives us the opportunity to take the blessings God gave us and pass them onto others. Socktober is a great way to give back to the community because it will provide gently used clothing to those in need this winter,” sophomore Shelby Todd said.

Any student interested in the Community Service Committee is welcome to attend the committee meetings which are held every other Tuesday night following the Student Senate meeting at 6:15 p.m. This and other committees are available for anyone to join.
