A Student Senate open forum on Tuesday covered issues such as the restoration of Doghouse swipe boxes, a new promotional campaign for the Student Senate, and a unified calendar of club and sports events.

Senate President Julia Witt said the swipe boxes, which were discontinued two years ago, are basic meals available at the Doghouse Grill that count as a swipe in Janzow dining hall. Witt said the removal of the program was partly due to budgeting concerns, but she hopes that the Special Concerns committee can work with Chartwells to consider a reinstatement.

Another hot topic was a new promotional campaign for the Student Senate. Many ideas were raised about bolstering attendance and engagement with the Senate, such as interactive posts on social media, Senate-sponsored speakers and club partnerships. The Public Relations committee will spearhead further discussion and enactment.

Open forum participants also discussed a unified calendar of club and sports events. Senate officers plan to talk with the Student Life Office and reintroduce the discussion on the Senate floor.
