No. 8 Concordia Wrestling Claims Two First-Place Titles
Jan. 2 was the first time in almost a month the No. 8 Concordia wrestling team took the mat for a competition. Concordia competed in the Viking-Warrior Open in Fremont.
Senior Matthew Atwood and junior Andrew Schulte highlighted the day for the Bulldogs with a pair of first-place finishes. Atwood won the 184 pound title over Lane Oversen from Dickinson State University, while Schulte claimed the 141 pound title over Bryce Shoemaker from University Nebraska-Kearney.
Junior Ceron Francisco was the only other Bulldog to place on the day. Francisco finished the day with a fourth-place finish after losing to Gabriel Rangel of Grandview in the third-place match.
Concordia will take the mat again next week in Fort Wayne, Indiana, when the Bulldogs compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals on Jan. 8 and 9.
