No. 22 Hastings Handles Concordia’s Men’s Soccer
by Garrett Suchanek
On a cool and windy Sunday night, the No. 22 Hastings Broncos defeated the Concordia Bulldogs’ men’s soccer team 3-1.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 7-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in GPAC.
Hastings came out and set the tone early with aggressive play. The Broncos finally broke into the scoring column when senior Felix Proessl scored in the 18th minute.
Shortly after Proessl’s goal, freshman Daniel Whitehall struck again for the Broncos to increase the lead to 2-0.
The Bulldogs were unable to score in the first half as all four of their shot attempts went wide of the goal.
In the second half, the Broncos continued to pressure the Bulldog goalie, Mark Horsburgh, as Hastings kicked nine more attempts and put four on goal.
The Broncos put the game out of reach when Whitehall collected his second goal of the game at the 80:58 mark and made it a 3-0 game.
The Bulldogs got on the board late in the game when freshman Angel Alvarez found the back of the net, but ultimately, the goal had no impact on the outcome as the full time whistle blew a minute later.
Hastings outshot Concordia 16-10 on the day. The Broncos also applied more pressure on the goalie as they put nine shots on frame compared to the Bulldogs one shot on goal.
Concordia will have a couple of days before taking the field again. The Bulldogs will travel to Crete to play Doane College at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
