by Jacy Johnston

The No. 13 Concordia women’s basketball team had senior night Wednesday night as the Bulldogs played their final home game of the regular season against the College of Saint Mary. The Bulldogs won 74-62 with some strong first quarter momentum carrying the lead through the game.

Senior Becky Mueller started the game with a 3-pointer for the Bulldogs and freshman Quinn Wragge connected on a 3-pointer of her own to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead. The offense continued to flourish, and Concordia led 19-8 after the first quarter. The second quarter tipped in favor of the Flames as they outscored the Bulldogs 14-8. With cold outside shooting, Concordia relied on offensive put backs for a 27-22 halftime score.

The Flames’ fire continued as they quickly tied the score at 27 apiece. Mueller stopped the Saint Mary run with another 3-pointer. The Bulldogs then continued to stop the Flames and went on a 7-0 run to gain a 37-30 lead with five minutes left in the third quarter. At the end of three quarters, Concordia maintained a 53-45 lead.

The lead expanded to double digits in favor of the Bulldogs, 62-52, with five minutes left in play. Sophomore Jade Gottier nailed a 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 15-point lead. The Bulldogs made their free throws to seal their 13th home win of the season.

The Bulldogs now sit at 22-7 overall and 14-7 in the GPAC. Concordia still stands in a three-way tie for second place in the conference.

Wragge led the team with 18 points and 18 rebounds, and junior Erin Vieselmeyer scored 10 points.

Mueller scored 17 points to add onto her career total. Mueller reached 1000 points in her career total on Saturday, Feb. 13 against Northwestern.

“[I am] very proud of Becky and what she has done in her career at Concordia,” said coach Drew Olson. “1000 points is a great accomplishment and shows the type of player she is, but I am more thankful for the person and teammate she is.”

Concordia will finish its regular season at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Briar Cliff University.
