Men’s Basketball Successful in CIT Sweep

The defending CIT men’s champions came home with another trophy after a Saturday night blowout in Walz Arena. The Concordia Bulldogs triumphed over the Concordia Ann Arbor Cardinals 85-58. The Bulldogs pulled away in the first half, scoring 28 points to the Cardinals’ 10 during the final 10 minutes leading into the second half.
Senior Seth Curran led the team with 14 total points. Senior Justin Damme added 10 points coming off the bench, and junior Kyle Pierce also had 10 points. Sophomore Chris Johnstone scored nine points while freshman Tanner Shuck contributed with eight points.
Senior center Chandler Folkerts scored 11 points in Saturday night’s game to earn himself MVP for the second year in a row. Folkerts scored a total of 30 points during CIT weekend.
“Our fans were crazy tonight,” Folkerts said. “It was an awesome environment to play in, and it’s always a great feeling to win the way we did.”
Folkerts and Shuck both made the 2017 CIT All-Tournament Team along with Connor Phee of Concordia University Ann Arbor, Mitch Pelissier of Concordia University Chicago, and Eric Kittle of Concordia University Wisconsin.
After this win, Concordia has improved its record to 15-8. The Bulldogs will play yet another home game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night when they face Grace University.
