by Garrett Suchanek

The Concordia men’s basketball team will enter December with six wins, the most pre-December wins since the 2010-11 season when the Bulldogs started 6-1. The Bulldogs won 84-81 against Doane on Tuesday to improve to 6-1 on the year and 2-1 in GPAC.

In the first half, the Bulldogs opened up a close game with a 17-2 run to gain a 23-11 lead. Despite the early Bulldog run, the Tigers responded with a run of their own and ended the first half making 10 of their last 11 shots to take a 37-30 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Tigers increased their lead to as many as nine and held the lead for almost 18 minutes before the Bulldogs came fighting back.

With 2:25 left, senior Micah Kohlwey buried a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs their first lead since 2:57 left in the first half, 80-78.

After trading buckets, the Bulldogs held an 82-81 lead with under 30 seconds left. Concordia’s junior Eli Ziegler knocked down a pair of free throws, and on Doane’s final possession, the Tigers failed to make the game-tying three as time expired.

Concordia had four players finish with double figure points. Junior Chandler Folkerts led the way with 22 points, while senior Jamie Pearson chipped in 20 points. Kohlwey finished with 14 points on five of nine from the field. Senior Robby Thomas recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will have over a week to prepare for their next contest. Concordia will take on Nebraska Wesleyan at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2 in Seward.
