Men’s Basketball Defeats Briar Cliff While Women Get First Loss of the Season

The Concordia men’s and women’s basketball teams faced off against Briar Cliff Saturday afternoon. The women’s team lost their game against the Briar Cliff Chargers 87-76 and the men won 78-58.
The women started off slowly and ended the first quarter down 19-8. Aside from the first quarter, the game was very even, but the Bulldogs could not erase the 11 point deficit. Sophomore Taysha Rushton led the Bulldogs in points with 23, and also totaled four rebounds. She also led the team in assists with four. Sophomore Sadie Powell led the team with seven rebounds and also added 16 points of her own.
The men started in the driver’s seat, going up 48-27 after the first half. They kept the pressure on in the second half to win by 20. Senior Gage Smith had a fantastic day, leading the team in points with 21 and rebounds with 16. He also added four assists and three steals to round off a great game. Junior A.J. Watson led the teams in assists, totaling five and also adding 13 points of his own.
The women are now 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The men remain undefeated at 3-0 and 1-0 in the GPAC. Both teams will play at Friedrich Arena against Midland University on Nov. 16.
