Harpst Leads Softball Sweep Versus Rivals Doane in Tuesday Night Doubleheader

Senior Kylie Harpst led the charge as Concordia’s softball team swept a GPAC doubleheader against the rival Doane Tigers on Tuesday night at Plum Creek Park.
Concordia moved to 15-7 on the season and 2-2 in GPAC play.
The Bulldogs controlled proceedings in the first game of the doubleheader. In the third inning Concordia opened the scoring with five runs. Harpst drove in three of those runs with a triple. In the fourth inning the Bulldogs added a sixth run off of a triple by senior Megan Ruppert. Concordia added four more in the fifth off of a three-run home run by Harpst to take a 10-0 lead over the Tigers. The game ended 10-0 after five innings.
Junior pitcher Michaela Woodward pitched a complete game shutout and got the win. She allowed only one hit, struck out three Tigers and added a home run as well. Harpst had six RBIs to lead the Bulldogs offensively.
The second game was a defensive struggle from the start. Doane broke through with the first run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead off of a single by Heather Ramirez. Doane pitcher Breanna Hamilton struck out eight Bulldogs over the first four innings. Concordia held firm and tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI single from freshman infielder Ronee Watson.
In the sixth inning Concordia took a 3-1 lead thanks to an RBI double from Harpst. Doane scored in the seventh to try and stage a comeback, but the Bulldogs held on to win 3-2.
Harpst was the winning pitcher and had two RBIs to lead Concordia.
Up next for the Bulldogs is another home doubleheader against Nebraska Wesleyan University on Thursday, March 23. First pitch from Plum Creek Park will be 5 p.m.
