Concordia Wrestling Tops Benedictine in Home Opener

Concordia wrestling beat Benedictine College (Kansas) 51-6 on Friday, Dec. 7 in their first home match of the season.
Benedictine only brought four wrestlers, leaving six weight classes open from which Concordia earned points. The competition only lasted 24 minutes.
The first match was between junior Alberto Garcia (Concordia) and junior Alex Gomez (Benedictine). Gomez pinned Garcia with four seconds left in the first round and earned Benedictine their lone six points.
After two more open weight classes for Benedictine, senior Chucky Hedrick (Concordia) wrestled against Jensen McDermott (Benedictine). There was a takedown by Hedrick and an escape by McDermott in the first round, making the score 2-1 in favor of Hedrick after the first round. Hedrick followed it up in the second round with a reversal to earn two more points. Shortly after, he pinned McDermott to win the match.
After another open weight class, junior Darrin Miller (Concordia) wrestled against freshman Tyson Albright (Benedictine). There was a takedown by Albright and a reversal by Miller in the first round, leaving the score tied at two. An escape by Albright left Miller at a 3-2 deficit going into the third. After an exciting third round, it was tied at six points each. Miller then won in overtime after a takedown early in the round.
In the next weight class, sophomore Tyler Jorgensen (Concordia) wrestled against sophomore James Schafer (Benedictine). It was not a long match, as Jorgensen got two takedowns and pinned Schafer within the first minute.
The last weight class was open for Benedictine giving the final score of 51-6. Concordia will go on to wrestle next week at the GPAC/Cascade duals on Dec. 16.
