Home Sports Concordia Volleyball Falters Against Dordt Defenders

by Chris Johnstone

The Concordia volleyball team faced the No. 11 ranked Dordt College in an away contest on Saturday, Oct. 15, and fell 3 sets to 0 (24-26, 18-25, 12-25) against the Defenders.

Junior defensive specialist Jocelyn Garcia led the charge defensively for the Bulldogs with 20 digs, but it was not enough to stop Dordt’s offensive attack.

The Bulldogs coming into the match were 11-15 overall and 3-7 in conference play. The Defenders came into the game with a 15-5 overall record and a 6-2 record throughout conference play.

“It was a tough loss,” Garcia said. “We started out with high energy along with solid play in the first set, lost a little in the second set and by the third set I think we just felt defeated. They gained the momentum after coming back in the first set, and we just didn’t respond well.”

Dordt sophomore outside hitter Julia Lindbergh lead the Defenders to the victory with 12 kills on the night.

“I think we were absolutely prepared, I just think this game was a mental issue,” Garcia said. “Our skills as a team are there, we just get way into our heads once we start losing.”

The Bulldogs will return to Walz Arena when they take on Doane University on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. for a Pink-Out game. Concordia students are invited to purchase pink T-shirts from the Student Life Office by 5 p.m. and wear them to the game. The Doane Tigers have a record of 18-5 overall and are 7-3 in the GPAC.
