For the first time since Thanksgiving, Concordia’s Men soccer team faced off against Benedictine College in Atchison KS, on Saturday Mar. 20. Benedictine College would win this battle 2-0.
In the fall, the Bulldogs finished their season 9-4-2 and finished in fifth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference regular season standings.
Neither team could get much offense going as there were only 13 total shots in the contest, 7-6 in favor of Concordia. The Bulldogs had largely the same players from when they played in the fall.
The Bulldogs couldn’t get into their rhythm while only racking off seven shots, four on goal. Sophomore Yessine Bessaies led the Bulldogs with 3 shots 2 on goal. On the defensive side, freshman Federico Andrea Simonetti allowed two goals and had three saves in his 90 minutes of play.
The Ravens came out strong scoring their first goal at the 10’ mark, that goal came from Girma Kassa. Kassa lead the Ravens with two shots total both being on goal and one of those shots scoring. Benedictines own Robert Mike Keon got the second score for the Ravens off a penalty kick at the 55’ mark.
The men will travel to Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. on Mar. 27. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Their opponent is 11-3-1 overall and ranked fifth in the NAIA Coaches Poll.
