The Concordia football team lost to 14th-ranked Midland University 41-31 in an offensive battle on Saturday, where both teams combined for 869 total yards. Senior Luke Lang gathered 77 yards and three touchdowns on five receptions. 

Concordia started the game strong, forcing punts on both of Midland’s first two drives and cashing in with a field goal on their first possession and a touchdown on their second. Midland answered back before the end of the first quarter, getting a touchdown of their own. 

Following an interception with 24 seconds left in the first quarter, Midland took the ball the length of the field and scored another touchdown. Concordia scored next on an 18-yard touchdown pass from sophomore D.J. McGarvie to Lang, giving the Bulldogs the lead back at 17-14. Midland kicked a field goal and the half ended in a tie. 

The Bulldogs received the ball to start the second half. The drive ended in another McGarvie-Lang connection, this time a 30-yard touchdown. Again Midland responded, scoring two unanswered touchdowns to make the score 31-24 in Midland’s favor heading into the final quarter.

The first play of the fourth quarter was a field goal from Midland. Lang got his third touchdown of the game on a six-yard reception, this time thrown by sophomore Austin Jablonski. Midland was able to find the endzone one more time with nine seconds left in the contest. 

McGarvie was 24-46 through the air with two touchdowns and one interception. McGarvie also found the endzone once on the ground. Senior Korrell Koehlmoos finished the day with 12 receptions and racked up 96 yards. 

Concordia is now 3-5 on the season and are also 3-5 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Nov. 5th as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Briar Cliff University.
