Concordia baseball traveled to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, to play four games in the season opener and start the season with a 1-3 record.

On Saturday, Concordia won the first game in a 12-inning battle 5-4, but lost the second game 6-5. Sunday, the Bulldogs faced Bethany again and dropped both games. The first score was 18-6 and the second 5-4, both in favor of the Swedes.

Bethany had already played 14 games before facing the Bulldogs. However, the Concordia team is optimistic for the season.

“We have put in the work necessary in the off-season in order for us to win games,” senior outfielder Jake Adams said.  “We have a good group of guys who are willing to work hard because that’s what it’s going to take to beat the tough teams.”

The Bulldogs have a few newcomers who will be a large part of the team’s progress this season. Among these are senior transfer first baseman Jason Galeano and freshmen pitchers Nick Little and Jason Munsch. Some key returners for the Bulldogs are junior infielder Kaleb Geiger, senior infielder Christian Montero, senior third baseman Casey Berg, senior outfielder Jake Adams and senior catcher Ryan Fesmire.

Next up, the players will travel to Tuscon, Arizona, during spring break from March 4-10. The players are hopeful that the 10 games played in Tucson will be helpful in getting the experience needed to prepare for GPAC play, which begins on March 24 against Northwestern College.
