Clubs and Activities for Every Bulldog
By Jayme Lowe
At Concordia, there are dozens of clubs and activities for everyone to enjoy. You can learn more about them in person at the Activities Fair in the Cattle Conference Room on August 28 from 6-8 p.m. However, we at the Sower are here with a sneak peek of some of the most popular clubs on campus!
The Student Activities Council organizes events for all of the students on campus, for free! Throughout the year, they host screenings at the Rivoli Theater, themed nights at the Spare Time bowling alley, Bongo Ball on the quad, and the highlight of the spring semester, Spring Weekend! SAC is always looking for new members, so make sure to check them out at the Activities Fair!
A major part of the Concordia community is the theater department. If you have a love for the stage, there are two clubs you should check out! The first is Curtain Club. This group is open to anyone looking to be involved in any area of theater at Concordia. They have an email list and are the place to be if you want to be in the know about our shows! The other major theatrical group on campus is the Concordia IMPROVables. They are, as you would guess, our improv theater troupe! They meet Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. for their rehearsals. At the beginning of the year, they host a welcome party where anyone can come and learn the basics of how IMPROVables works. The troupe performs throughout the year, including a three-hour Mini-Improvathon in the fall and a 24-Hour Improvathon in the spring.
If you have a passion for spreading the Gospel, Mission-Minded Students might be the club for you. With meetings in the Global Opportunities Center and a faculty sponsor in Director of Global Opportunities Julie Johnston-Hermann, the group participates in various outreach events throughout the year. Many members of this club attend Beautiful Feet, a missions conference held at one of the Concordia universities every year!
Concordia is also home to a club focused on all life-related issues. Bulldogs for Life holds clothing and diaper drives throughout the year and sends representatives to the National March for Life in Washington, D.C., every year. Bulldogs for Life is dedicated to encouraging everyone to take a look at the sanctity of life at every stage.
One of the most energetic clubs on campus is Concordia Youth Ministry. Throughout the year, small groups go to local congregations to lead lock-ins and other youth events. Many Director of Christian Education students join CYM, but anyone who has a passion for youth leadership is welcome! Games, Bible studies, music and other activities build fellowship within the youth groups the teams interact with, strengthening and encouraging faith in everyone involved.
Concordia also has several major-related clubs, such as the Art Club, Science Club and Math Club.If you are interested in any of these but aren’t majoring in them, you can still be a part of the group. Meetings are held throughout the year, featuring speakers and activities, including some for the general campus. Math Club has previously hosted an escape room and created math-based art installations for the Thom Leadership Education Center.
None of these clubs catching your eye? There are even more! No matter where your interests lie, Concordia has a club for you. Remember to go to the Activities Fair for some free swag and more information.
