Concordia beat the Doane University Tigers 20-13 in Saturday’s senior day game in Bulldog Stadium.
In the second quarter, Doane’s Frazzie Wynn rushed five yards to score a touchdown and the first points of the game. A few minutes later, Concordia’s Jonah Weyand rushed 17 yards for a touchdown.
The third quarter started out with a fumble from Concordia and was recovered by Doane’s Riley Homolka. The Concordia defense prevented Doane from scoring a touchdown, but Doane’s kicker Caden Theis made a 41-yard field goal to give Doane the lead. Later in the quarter, Theis made a 39-yard field goal bringing the score to 13-7 at the end of the third quarter.
In the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, Concordia tied the game after a 7-yard pass from quarterback DJ McGarvie to wide receiver Cayden Beran. At 9:03 into the fourth quarter, Concordia’s linebacker Jorge Ochoa intercepted a pass from Doane’s Vaughn Martinez and rushed 23 yards to score a touchdown. Concordia’s defense held off Doane until the end of the game.
“Anytime you’re coming off a bye week and you’re playing well it can be a little nerve-racking just because you worry if your rhythm is going to get thrown off, “ said Coach Patrick Daberkow. “It was good to see the guys respond to a week off.”
Concordia plays its last game of the regular season against Hastings College on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. in Hastings. Concordia is now 6-3 overall, 6-3 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
