by Garrett Suchanek

The Concordia volleyball team took care of business as the Bulldogs defeated No. 19 Hastings 25-19, 25-13 and 27-25 Wednesday night at Walz Arena.

The Bulldogs battled early in set one before a strong defense and a powerful offense opened up the set.

The Bulldogs continued their hot offense as Concordia reeled off eight straight points midway through the second set.

Concordia outhit the Broncos in set two .423 to -.067.

Hastings jumped to a 6-3 lead in the second set. The Bulldogs regrouped and strung together a run of their own that gave Concordia an 18-15 lead and forced the Broncos to call a timeout.

Hastings fought back for the lead late in the set. The Broncos had an opportunity to force a fourth set with a 24-23 advantage, but the Bulldogs rallied to win four of the next five points to claim the victory.

Outside hitter Claire White, a senior, led Concordia with 16 kills. White returned to the court after sitting out last weekend due to ankle pain.

Junior Paige Getz also had double-digit kills with 12.

Junior Alayna Kavanaugh handed out 35 assists.

The Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways this weekend as Concordia travels to Hastings to play four nonconference games.

The Bulldogs are slated to play MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) at 1 p.m. and Montana Western University at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 11. The Bulldogs take on Carroll College (Mont.) at 1 p.m. and No. 20 Montana Tech University at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 12.
