Seniors Carter Kent and Justin Wiersma dominated the first half en route to a Concordia men’s basketball victory against Morningside College 83-68 on Wednesday.
Kent led the team in points with 25, making this game the fourth straight game Kent has scored at least 19 points. Fellow senior Gage Smith took over the second half, scoring 12 points in that half alone and 20 total points. Wiersma ended up grabbing 13 points.
Ben Limback, coach of the men’s basketball team, was impressed with how the team started the game.
“I liked that we played our style, Carter Kent continues to play at a high level. I thought Justin Wiersma hit some big shots, Gage Smith did well too.” Limback said. “Those three guys continue to lead us.”
Smith also led the team in rebounds, grabbing 11 total, eight being on the defensive side. Sophomore A.J. Watson and freshman Noah Shutte helped Smith, each of them snagging six rebounds. Watson led the team in assists as well with six.
Concordia will next face off against Northwestern College on Saturday, Jan. 22. The game is set for 3:45 p.m. Limback and his team knows it will be a good game.
“We knew two of these three games will be tough road games, we know it’ll be a tough battle,” Limback said.
