On Wednesday night, Oct. 26, the Concordia Bulldogs’ men’s soccer team triumphed over the Doane University Tigers 3-2. The Bulldogs and Tigers have been long-time rivals, which was especially evident during the game played in Crete.

Each team took 12 shots. The Tigers scored first in the 28th minute. Just when they thought it was going to be 1-0 at halftime, the Bulldogs responded in the last minutes of the first half. The first Bulldog goal came from freshman midfielder Alex Grocott with the assist from sophomore defender Aries Fung. This was Grocott’s first goal as a Bulldog. A short 36 seconds later, Fung scored a goal of his own, making the game 2-1 in favor of the Bulldogs.

After halftime, both teams came out strong. In the 56th minute, junior forward Micah Lehenbauer scored his eighth goal of the season. The Tigers didn’t give up though. In the 80th minute a penalty kick kept Doane in the game and made the score 3-2.

This win helped the Bulldogs secure their third seed finish in the GPAC. This means that the team will host the first round of the tournament at Bulldog Stadium.

The Bulldogs (9-5-1, 6-2 GPAC) will finish off the regular season by traveling to Mitchell, South Dakota to face Dakota Wesleyan (2-12, 1-6 GPAC). Kickoff is set for 3:30.
