Ask An Athlete: What Is the Greatest Lesson Your Sport Has Taught You?
by Madison Pitsch
You see them on the court, in the field, at the shooting range and on the course but do you really know them? It is our mission to introduce you to Concordia’s athletes and their shining personalities and funny stories.
The question: What is the greatest lesson your sport has taught you?
- Freshman Philly Lammers, basketball: “Basketball gives me so much: friends, relationships, skills, confidence, leadership, and countless memories and experiences. More than anything else, basketball, especially this year, has been teaching me to be confident in myself…that you have to believe in yourself and expect things before you can achieve them.”
- Junior Jared Woods, wrestling: “Being a wrestler, there are times when you literally get taken down and have to get back up to score. That being said, the biggest lesson wrestling has taught me is to never (let) a setback keep you from moving forward. Even if you are losing early in the match, it doesn’t mean you can’t come out victorious at the end. Strive for a goal, and don’t let anything stop you from achieving it.”
- Senior Marti Vlasin, cross country : “My sport has taught me that your attitude, whether good or bad, will define the outcome of your race.”
- Sophomore Neleigh Lehr, dance team: “Being a dancer has taught me to be patient, have discipline and how to cooperate with a team. Getting to the next level takes time and energy, so staying motivated and learning the correct way is key. Being a part of a team is one of the best parts because soon they are your family. I love dancing and I am so fortunate to be able to be part of the CUNE Dance Team.”
