Improvables homecoming show draws crowd in for “fun” and “hilarious” night of improvisational comedy

The Improvables engaged their audience in a night of theatrical scenes and laughter at their first improv show of the year on the Friday of Homecoming weekend.

The house was full, the crowd was chattering amongst themselves, and the first cast members made their way onto the stage for an improvised show running just over an hour long.

The audience picked what game was played next based on a picture with a game written on the back.

Caleb Jalas, who was in the show’s cast and is a panel member for the Improvables, made note of the audience’s participation.

“There was a lot of audience participation, which was wonderful to see,” he said.

“We had a lot of great laughs,” said Jalas. “We had a wonderful, stellar cast that was able to do their best and I’m really happy with the creativity we had tonight.”

“It was the first show of the semester so it was fun getting back into [improv],” said cast member Marieka Kaufman. She said it was nice to see where the performers have grown compared to last year’s Homecoming.

Concordia alumnus Adam Prince, a past Improvables panel member, came back to watch the show.

“It was so good,” said Prince. “I’m incredibly proud of all of them [the cast]. I think their Pan-Pan scene might be my favorite scene of Pan-Pan that I’ve ever watched.”

Freshman theatre major Morgan Davis said he participates in improv during the week and loved watching Friday’s show.

“I go Tuesday and Thursday nights and I have a lot of fun, so I thought I would come to see the show,” Davis said. “All of the scenes were hilarious. Probably my favorite scene, if I had to say one, would probably be Pan-Pan.”

Sophomore Nathan Aschmann said he came to watch the show because it “sounded fun.” He said it turned out just as fun as it sounded.

“It’s fun — really fun,” said Aschmann, “I recommend coming and you can see how creative people are.”

The Improvables encouraged students to come to their practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-10:00 p.m. in Borland’s Black Box Theatre.
