The Concordia Volleyball team won their match 3-0 against the Morningside University Mustangs this Saturday.

The first set began with a strong lead for Concordia. Leading off with a five-point streak, the Bulldogs left the Mustangs struggling to catch up on points throughout the entire set. Near the end of the set Morningside made a strong push, going toe-to-toe with Concordia and pulling off a nearly unbroken six-point streak. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, that streak wasn’t enough to overcome the gap, and the set ended with a score of 25-19.

The second set started with a much closer race, with both teams scoring one after another until the score reached 11-11. After that point the Bulldogs took a three-point lead. Morningside kept the points fairly even until the score reached 19-16, when Concordia took off, only letting one point go and finishing the set with a score of 25-17.

The final set was another race after what looked like an assured Concordia victory at 12-6. With the two teams trading points fairly equally throughout, the Bulldogs still refused to let go of the lead. Scoring kill after kill, Concordia proved itself again as the No. 1 conference team, taking the game with a score of 25-20.

Leading the match with 11 kills was sophomore Ashley Keck, closely followed by 10 from junior Carly Rodaway. On the defensive side, senior Camryn Opfer led in digs with 16 saves. Fellow senior Bree Burtwistle led in assists with 42.

Taking every set by at least five points, Concordia took this match as their fifteenth consecutive win, maintaining their streak and their spot at No. 1 in the NAIA conference at 15-0. Their next game is a home game on Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. against the University of Jamestown Jimmies.
