The Concordia Bulldog wrestling team competed in the Great Plains Athletic Conference wrestling championships Friday and Saturday. They finished in third place out of nine teams with a total score of 110.

Many of the Concordia wrestlers put on a good show. Freshman Bryce Carlin (125) finished in fifth place at his GPAC championships debut and scored nine points for the Bulldogs. Junior Creighton Baughman (141) had a fantastic performance, finishing in second place in his weight class and contributing 16 points to the team total. His only loss came to Baterdene Boldmaa, a three-time national champion and now a four-time GPAC champion.

Sophomore Jeaven Scordis (149) finished fourth and also contributed 10.5 points to the team score. Sophomore Tommy Wentz and junior Tavoris Smith both competed in the 157-pound weight class. Wentz finished in fifth with 11 team points and Smith finished in third place with 12.5 team points.

Sophomore Garret Moser (174) finished in sixth place and added seven points to the team’s total. Freshman Logan Davidson (184) finished a great first season with a third-place finish and had 13.5 team points. Davidson beat fellow Bulldog junior Stephen Duffy, meaning Duffy finished fourth and had 10.5 team points.

Other Bulldogs that competed but did not place include freshman Cy Renney (285), junior Jose Sanchez (174), and freshman Grant Wells (133).

Senior Issiah Burks (165) triumphed in what could have been the final meet of his collegiate career. However, Burks pulled off the upset and won his bracket to make it to nationals in his final season.

That wraps up a great season for the Bulldogs. The four wrestlers moving on to nationals are Creighton Baughman, Tavoris Smith, Issiah Burks, and Logan Davidson. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championships will take place on March third and fourth in Park City, Kansas.
