Men’s Soccer Cinches Last Minute Goals to Beat Northwestern

Concordia came back from a one-goal deficit to defeat Northwestern College 2–1 on Saturday. Sophomore Ryan Wokutch played a large part in the win with his two goals late in the game.

Northwestern scored a goal in the 27th minute for a 1-0 lead that they carried into the half. From there the score remained consistent until Wokutch found the net twice in the second half, scoring in the 83rd and 86th minutes. Concordia held their opponent to a single goal and nearly doubled Northwestern’s eight shots on goal with 15 of their own.

Coach Jason Weides talked about the team’s ability to dig deep, saying, “our guys showed great resilience throughout this game and kept on believing.” He then addressed Concordia’s next matchup against Midland University. “We’re going to be tested against a team that’s probably competing for the top spot in Midland and we’re in for a battle,” he said.

With the win over Northwestern, the Bulldogs’ record on the season is now 7-2 overall and 2-1 against Great Plains Athletic Conference opponents. Concordia will be back in action on Wednesday in Fremont facing off against Midland University.
