Softball in Midseason Splits Doubleheader With Midland

The Bulldog softball team battled against Midland University on Sunday afternoon, Apr. 11, winning the first game 6-3 and losing the second 0-3. 

Concordia’s overall record now moves to 19 wins and six losses while also having five wins and four losses in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. 

Starting off strong in the batting lineup was sophomore Kylee Nixon who hit a double and then later stole third. Sophomore Camry Moore hit a sacrifice fly ball which admitted Nixon to score at home. 

In the top of the second inning, the Warriors answered back with two runs of their own. The battle would continue back and forth as freshman Julia Van Wey singled in two runs for the Bulldogs gaining the lead at the bottom of the second inning. The Warriors would score one more run in the third inning, tying the game at 3-3.

Moore pitched a scoreless fourth inning before the Bulldogs came back offensively in the sixth inning. Junior shortstop Tori Holmoka, doubled in two runs and junior Hhana Haro would follow, singling in one more run which would let the Bulldogs take the lead at 6-3, winning the game.

It was a defensive battle in game two as freshman Jerzi Rowe took to the circle for the Bulldogs. Rowe had zero earned runs off of six hits, only two walks and four strikeouts against the Warriors. With a strong wind coming in from centerfield, both teams had to adjust defensively to the pop-flys as they died off in the air. 

Game two went 0-0 in the score until the seventh inning when Midland found some baserunners and scored off of a missed pop fly by the Bulldogs. The Warriors took the win with a final score of 0-3.

The Bulldogs will finish their second game in a doubleheader that was rescheduled with Doane on Monday, Apr. 12 at 5 p.m. The game will start at the top of the fifth inning with the Tigers leading in the score at 3-1.
