Home Sports No. 18 Bulldogs Fall at Hastings

by Garrett Suchanek

In a battle of two top 25 teams, the No. 18 Concordia Bulldogs women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to the No. 21 Hastings Broncos Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Hastings.

The Bulldogs fell to 6-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in GPAC with the loss.

This matchup was not only an important game for both teams, but it also marked the first time in conference history when two ranked GPAC teams faced off.

The big-time atmosphere didn’t faze Hastings who looked to avenge last years’ two losses to Concordia.

The Broncos came out aggressive and put five of their 11 shots on goal in the first half. The Bulldogs’ goalkeeper junior Chrissy Lind kept the Broncos scoreless by making five saves in the half.

In the second half, the Broncos continued to be the aggressor and put four of their eight shots on goal.

Hastings slid the game’s lone goal past Lind at the 57:45 mark to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead and the eventual win.

The Broncos outshot Concordia 19-3 for the game. The Broncos put nine shots on goal compared to one shot by the Bulldogs.

Concordia will look to bounce back as the team hosts Dordt College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3.
