Women’s Basketball Continues Win Streak into the New Year
by Chris Johnstone
The Concordia women’s basketball team, seeded second in the nation, continued their winning streak into 2017 with a 86-63 win over the Briar Cliff Chargers in Walz Arena on Wednesday, Jan 4.
In a game that featured almost every Bulldog in uniform, junior guard Dani Andersen led the squad with 17 points which included 3-5 attempts from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs are currently riding a 16-game win streak with their impressive play in the inaugural Hoops N Surf Classic held in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Chargers came into the game with a 9-8 overall record and a 4-3 record in conference play.
The Bulldogs suffocating defense was a key aspect to the game, forcing Briar Cliff to turn the ball over 32 times and shoot just 18% from three point range. Senior Blake Kaylee led the Chargers with 12 points but it was not enough to come into Walz Arena and leave with a win.
Also contributing for the Bulldogs were sophomore forward Quinn Wragge with 12 points and senior guard Shelby Quinn with 11.
The Bulldogs have a quick turnaround as they take on Dordt College on Friday. The Bulldogs have won 8 straight games on the Defenders home floor. Tip off is on Friday, Jan. 6 in Sioux Center at 6 p.m.
