11 Bulldogs Qualify for Indoor Track and Field Nationals

The Bulldog track and field team had a banner day at Doane University’s Scott Nisely Memorial Classic on Jan. 14 as 11 athletes qualified for nationals.
Bulldog throwers led the way for the pack. Senior Zach Lurz secured a trip to nationals in both shot put with a throw of 54’ 10 ¼” and weight throw with a throw of 59’ 5 ¾”. Senior Cody Boellstorff qualified for nationals in weight throw with a throw of 63’ 10 ¼”. Senior Philip Kreutzer (56’ 01 ¼” weight throw), senior Sidney Meyer (53’ 03 ¾” weight throw), senior Kali Robb (46’ 02 ¾” shot put) and freshman Adrianna Shaw (44’ 05 ½” shot put) also secured a trip to nationals.
Sophomore Allie Brooks also had a successful day. She qualified to go to nationals in both pole vault with a jump of 11’ 10 ½” for first place and high jump with a jump of 5’ 5” for fourth place.
For the runners, freshman Ben Hulett took first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41. The Bulldog 4×800 team took first with a time of 8:20.36. Junior Patrick Wortmann took first in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:36.02.
Some Bulldogs were sent to compete in the University of Nebraska’s Holiday Inn Invitational at the Devaney Center in Lincoln. CJ Muller qualified for nationals in his 600-meter run with a time of 1:20.53, as well as qualifying with the 4×400 team of junior Jake Rodgers, senior Lucas Wiechman and sophomore Nathan Matters that notched a time of 3:19.09.
The Bulldogs will be in action next at the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolf Invite on Friday, Jan. 20 at the Devaney Center in Lincoln.
